How we price Land Rover work
Range Rover owners pay what a friend of ours would pay.
A Range Rover is a car people live in, from the school run to the drive up to Palm Beach, and the bills for it can climb fast. The labor is the part of the bill we set, and we keep it fair. KJ, who owns BMR Auto, looks after a Range Rover the way he would look after a car belonging to a friend or a relative, with respect for its owner and an honest number on the invoice. When one air spring has failed, we quote that air spring.
One owner who brings both cars to us wrote:
“Best mechanic to date for high end cars - the only one we trust with our Bentley Continental and our Range Rover.”

What to send us for a Range Rover quote
- The model and the model year, for example a 2016 Range Rover Sport or a 2023 Defender.
- The engine: the 5.0 supercharged V8, the 3.0 supercharged V6, the 3.0 six, the 2.0 four, a plug-in hybrid, or the BMW 4.4 twin-turbo V8.
- The VIN, which settles the rest.
- What the car is doing, and any warning on the dash or the suspension height it sits at.
The price depends on the car and the job. Send the VIN or call, and your car is quoted before any work begins.
Models and engines
Range Rover and Land Rover, generation by generation.
The generation and the engine decide most of what a job involves, so they are the first thing we ask. The years below are model years.
Range Rover L322
2003 to 2012
Developed while BMW owned Land Rover. The 2003 to 2005 cars use the BMW M62 4.4-liter V8 and electronics drawn from the BMW E39 5 Series. From 2006 the car moved to Jaguar V8s and Ford and Jaguar electronics, and the 2010 refresh brought the 5.0-liter V8. Air suspension on every car.
Range Rover L405
2013 to 2021
The all-aluminum Range Rover. The 5.0-liter supercharged V8, the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 from 2014, the 3.0-liter Ingenium mild hybrid six, and the P400e plug-in hybrid from the 2019 model year. Electronic air suspension with variable ride height.
Range Rover L460
2022 to today
The current Range Rover, built since mid-2022. The P360 and P400 use the 3.0-liter mild hybrid six, the P440e, P510e and P550e are plug-in hybrids, and the V8 cars use BMW twin-turbo V8s: the N63 in the P530, then the S68 in the P615 from 2024.
Range Rover Sport
L320 2006 to 2013, L494 2014 to 2022, L461 2023 to today
The first two generations use Jaguar-family V8s, including the 5.0 supercharged from 2010, and the L494 added the supercharged V6, the mild hybrid six and the 2.0 plug-in hybrid. The L461 uses the mild hybrid six, 3.0 plug-in hybrids and the BMW 4.4 twin-turbo V8 in the P530 and SV.
Velar and Evoque
Velar 2018 to today, Evoque 2012 to today
The Velar uses the 2.0 Ingenium four, the 3.0 supercharged V6 to 2020, then the mild hybrid six and the P400e plug-in. The second-generation Evoque, from 2020, adds a 48-volt mild hybrid and the P300e plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder.
Defender, Discovery and LR4
LR3, LR4, Discovery, Discovery Sport, Defender from 2020
The LR3 and LR4 ride on air suspension, with the 5.0 V8 in the 2010 to 2013 LR4 and the 3.0 supercharged V6 after it. The Defender uses the 2.0 four, the 3.0 mild hybrid six, the P400e plug-in, the 5.0 supercharged V8 and, in the OCTA, BMW’s S68 V8.
The BMW engines
Some Range Rovers run on BMW engineering we know well.
The L322 Range Rover was developed while BMW owned Land Rover, and the 2003 to 2005 cars use BMW’s M62 4.4-liter V8 with electronics drawn from the BMW E39 5 Series.
The V8 versions of the current Range Rover, from the 2022 model year, and of the current Range Rover Sport, from the 2023 model year, use BMW twin-turbo V8s. The P530 used the N63, the same engine as the BMW M550i, M850i and X5 M50i, and from 2024 the Range Rover P615, the Range Rover Sport SV and the Defender OCTA use BMW’s S68. BMW is the work BMR Auto is known for. See BMW service and repair.

Land Rover jobs by service
What to know about each Range Rover job.
Each block says what is known about the job on a Range Rover or Land Rover and links to the full service page. Where the work goes to the dealer, the block says so.
Air suspension
The L322 and L405 Range Rover, the LR3 and the LR4 ride on air suspension. A car that sits low after parking or a compressor that runs long usually means a leak. We find the failed part and quote that part.
Diagnostics
Land Rover dealers use JLR’s SDD software on older cars and Pathfinder on newer ones. We scan the car and test the fault before we recommend a part.
Programming and coding
JLR sells independent shops access to programming for non-security modules through its TOPIx portal. Key programming and security modules need an accredited Independent Operator or locksmith. Call with the model year and the module, and we tell you whether the job can be done here.
Keys
Land Rover key programming needs accredited access through JLR. Call us with the model year before you buy a key.
Engine and transmission
On the 5.0 supercharged V8, JLR revised the timing chain guides and tensioners in 2011 and again in 2014, and supercharged engines from 2011 use plastic coolant crossover pipes. Both are on our list when one of these engines comes in.
Maintenance and oil changes
Oil to the specification for your exact engine, fluids, filters and inspections. Send the model, the engine and the VIN, and we quote the service due.
Batteries, hybrids and EVs
Many current models are 48-volt mild hybrids, and the P400e, P440e, P550e and P300e are plug-in hybrids. High-voltage battery work on the plug-ins and the electric Range Rover goes to a Land Rover dealer.
Air conditioning
A Range Rover in South Florida runs its air conditioning hard all year. We find the leak or the failed part before we recharge the system.
Pre-purchase inspection
Before you buy a used Range Rover, have the air suspension, the cooling system and the engine checked. Tell us the model, year and engine, and we quote the inspection.
Collision and body
Call with the model, the year and a description of the damage, and we tell you what we can repair here and quote it.
What goes to the dealer
When the dealer is the right place for your Range Rover.
When a job belongs at the dealer, we say so on the first call, so you do not pay us to find out.
Land Rover service in South Florida includes Land Rover Coral Gables, 155 South Dixie Highway; Land Rover North Dade, 2300 NE 151st St, North Miami; Land Rover South Dade, 16750 S Dixie Hwy, Miami; Land Rover West Broward, 4651 Volunteer Road, Davie; and Land Rover Palm Beach, 7550 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach.
- Recall repairs, which a Land Rover dealer does free. Recall 25V-016, for example, covers 2023 and 2024 Defender and 2023 Discovery Sport and Evoque models whose touchscreen can stay blank at start, so the rear camera image does not show; dealers update the software free. Check your VIN on NHTSA’s recall site, or send it to us and we check it.
- Repairs covered by the factory warranty.
- Key programming and security modules, unless the work can be done with accredited access.
- High-voltage battery work on the plug-in hybrids and the electric Range Rover.
In general, servicing at an independent shop does not void your warranty. A maker may not require a branded service as a condition of the warranty unless that service is free, and the FTC says a company cannot deny coverage only because you used an independent shop. It can deny a claim for damage the outside work caused. Keep the written invoice for every job.
Florida law requires a repair shop to offer you a written estimate before work begins on all but the smallest jobs, unless you waive it in writing; see your rights under Florida law.

Questions from Range Rover and Land Rover owners
Do you work on Range Rover and Land Rover?
Yes. BMR Auto services and repairs the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque, Defender, Discovery, LR3 and LR4 in its Dania Beach shop. Call with the model, the year and what the car is doing.
How do you price Range Rover work?
Fairly, and you hear the number first. Once we know what the car needs, we tell you the cost, and nothing is added without your approval. See how we price Land Rover work.
My Range Rover sits low in the morning. What is wrong?
Usually a leak in the air suspension: an air spring, an air line or the valve block, with the compressor working harder to make up for it. We find the part that failed and quote that part. See air suspension.
Does my Range Rover have a BMW engine?
The 2003 to 2005 Range Rover has the BMW M62 V8, and the V8 versions of the current Range Rover and Range Rover Sport use BMW’s N63 or S68 twin-turbo V8. See the BMW engines.
What should I watch for on the 5.0 supercharged V8?
JLR revised the timing chain guides and tensioners in 2011 and again in 2014, and one Canadian specialist reports a cold-start rattle on 2010 to 2014 engines. The same specialist reports that the plastic coolant crossover pipes fitted from 2011 turn brittle and crack. Call us with the year and the symptom.
Can you program a Land Rover key?
Land Rover key programming and security modules need accredited access through JLR. Call us with the model year before you buy a key, and we tell you where the job can be done.
Do you work on the plug-in hybrid Range Rovers?
Yes, on everything except the high-voltage system. High-voltage battery work on the P400e, P440e, P550e and other plug-in models goes to a Land Rover dealer. See hybrid and EV batteries.
Can you inspect a used Range Rover before I buy it?
Yes. Call us with the model, year and engine of the car, and we quote the inspection before you buy. See pre-purchase inspections.
Will servicing my Range Rover at an independent shop void the warranty?
Usually not. Under federal law a maker may not require a branded service as a condition of the warranty unless that service is free, and the FTC says a company cannot deny coverage only because you used an independent shop. It can deny a claim for damage the outside work caused. Keep the written invoice for every job.
Do you serve Range Rover owners in Hallandale Beach and Golden Isles?
Yes. The shop is about 4 miles north of Hallandale Beach in a straight line, and the drive is up US 1 or Dixie Highway. See service area.
