Headlight repair for BMW and exotic cars in South Florida.
A headlight warning does not always mean a new headlight. The cause can be a driver module, its software, a bulb or a seal. BMR Auto, in Dania Beach, finds the cause first and repairs the part that failed when that is possible, before anyone talks about a new assembly.

Repair or replace
Repair the part that failed before replacing the headlight.
A modern headlight is several parts: bulbs or LED units, a driver module, leveling motors, seals and the housing. A replacement BMW driver module from one UK retailer costs a small fraction of a new laser assembly, which is why the diagnosis comes first.
Software
Some faults are a software error in the driver module, fixed by programming. See BMW adaptive and LED headlights.
Driver module
The driver module controls the light’s functions. On many BMWs it is a separate part that can be replaced and coded on its own.
Bulb
A failed bulb or LED unit can often be replaced without changing the whole headlight, depending on how the light is built.
Seal or housing
When moisture is the only problem, sealing the housing can be enough. See condensation.
Full assembly
When the lens, the LED array or the laser unit itself has failed, the whole assembly is replaced, then coded and aimed.
BMR Auto replaces bulbs, fits complete headlights, replaces headlight washers, replaces and programs driver modules, and restores foggy or yellowed lenses.
BMW adaptive and LED
BMW adaptive and LED headlight warnings.
On many F-series BMWs a headlight warning comes from the driver module, called the TMS, and in some cases from its software alone.
BMW service bulletin SI B63 10 14
In October 2014, BMW issued service bulletin SI B63 10 14 for an adaptive headlight malfunction caused by a software error in the left headlight driver module. The car shows a check-control message for the daytime lights, turn signal, low beam or high beam, and stores fault codes 800FC8 and E58522. The fix is reprogramming the module to a newer software level, and the bulletin says it is covered under the BMW new vehicle or certified pre-owned warranty. Any car still under that coverage should get the fix free at the dealer.

Driver module failures
One headlight parts retailer lists a replacement TMS module for 2010 to 2013 F10 and F11 5 Series and F07 xenon headlights. It says the module controls the headlight leveling, the LED angel eyes and daytime lights, and the front indicators, and lists these symptoms:
- A red headlight warning.
- Leveling fails and the beam is stuck low.
- The angel eyes flicker or go out.
- The front LED indicator or the side and daytime lights fail.
- Fault codes such as 800FC2, 800FC3, 800FC7, 800FC8, 800FC9 and 800F86 to 800F89.
The same retailer states that coding is required after fitting. Separate driver modules are also sold for the LED headlights of later F07, F10, F11 and F18 cars. Coding is daily work for BMR Auto; see programming and coding.
Angel eyes and daytime lights
On the cars above, angel eyes that flicker or go out are one of the listed signs of a failing driver module, so it is worth checking the module before replacing the rings.
A 2012 BMW M6
In an earlier review of the work of KJ, who owns BMR Auto, an M6 owner wrote that the adaptive headlamp had been failing for months, out of warranty, that the dealer’s quote ran into the thousands, and that the job was done in one day for a small part of that. His words are in the reviews below.

BMW laser headlights
BMW laser headlights and what one cost.
In March 2026, CarScoops reported one owner’s bill for a 2023 BMW M4 Competition Convertible. One headlight seal had failed, and the dealer’s price to replace the full laser assembly came to more than nine thousand dollars with tax, most of it for the part.
- The job meant removing the front bumper.
- The new unit had to be programmed to the car.
- The article suggests sealing a cracked rear housing when moisture is the only problem, and names aftermarket and used original units as cheaper paths.
Before you pay for a new one
A bill like that is where the fair way of doing things matters most. BMR Auto checks first whether the seal, the driver or the software is the real fault, and when the assembly does have to go, we lay out the choices for your car, new or used original, with the cost of each. We would want the same if it were our own car, and owners who have been treated that way are the reason the shop keeps growing.
The CarScoops figure is one car’s dealer bill, reported by an owner. It is not a BMR Auto price.
Condensation
Condensation and cracked housings.
Water inside a headlight can mean a seal or the housing has failed. In the M4 case above, one failed seal led to a full laser assembly. Caught early, sealing can be enough.
BMR Auto finds where the water gets in and tells you plainly whether sealing will hold or the light needs replacing. Water left inside can damage the LED units and the driver over time, so do not wait for the light to fail.
Yellowed or foggy lenses
BMR Auto restores foggy or yellowed lenses, which brings back light output and the look of the car. Call with the car for a quote.
Coding and aiming
Coding and aiming after a replacement.
A new headlight or driver module has to be set up for the car before it works properly, and then aimed.
Coding
A replacement BMW driver module needs coding after fitting, according to the retailer that sells it, and the M4 laser unit had to be programmed to the car. BMR Auto codes every replacement headlight and module to the car. See programming and coding.
Aiming
Florida law sets what the beams must reach: high beams must show people and vehicles at least 450 feet ahead, and low beams at least 150 feet, with no high-intensity part of the low beam striking an oncoming driver’s eyes on a straight, level road. A light that is not aimed can fall short of that.
Florida law
What Florida law allows on headlights.
Two sections of the Florida Statutes decide most of the headlight changes owners ask about.
Section 316.237: covers and beams
“An object, material, or covering that alters the headlamp’s visibility from at least 450 feet for an uppermost distribution of light or at least 150 feet for a lowermost distribution of light may not be placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied over a headlamp.” Tint film or a smoked cover that cuts the light short of those distances falls under it. The same section sets the 450-foot high beam and 150-foot low beam distances.
Section 316.2397: red and blue lights
No vehicle may show a red, red and white, or blue light visible from directly in front, except as the section allows. Blue lights are expressly prohibited on any vehicle other than police vehicles and certain fire department and corrections vehicles. That takes in blue or red angel eyes and accent lights facing forward.
BMR Auto does not install headlight tint, smoked covers or blue or red forward-facing lights for road use.
Other makes
Headlights on Mini, McLaren, Rolls-Royce and other makes.
Call us first with the car and the fault. We tell you on the call whether we can repair it or where it should go.
Mini
Mini is part of the BMW Group, and a Mini headlight fault is read the same way as a BMW’s, starting with the light modules.
McLaren
BMR Auto repairs and replaces McLaren headlights, replaces the washers, and replaces and programs the driver modules.
Rolls-Royce
The Ghost, Wraith and Dawn run on BMW electronics, so a lighting fault on them starts with the same module scan as on a BMW.
Mercedes-Benz and Porsche
Mercedes Multibeam LED and Porsche PDLS headlights are complex units. Tell us the model and the warning, and we will tell you on the call what the diagnosis involves. See also Porsche service.
Parts
New, used and aftermarket headlights.
A replacement headlight can be new from the maker, a used original unit or an aftermarket unit, and the price gap between them is large.
When a headlight has to be replaced, BMR Auto tells you which of these exist for your car, what each costs and what we think of each, and you decide. Rare lights get marked up by sellers who know an owner has few choices; we find the part at a fair price and tell you its true condition.
One earlier review of KJ’s work comes from an owner who had searched a long time for a driver-side BMW headlamp, found one at the shop at a fair price in practically brand new condition, and wrote that the shop was truthful about its condition. See parts.
Quotes
How to get a price on headlight work.
Prices depend on the car and the headlight system, so send us the VIN and tell us what the light is doing, and BMR Auto will quote your car. These are the jobs owners ask about most.
| Job | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Bulb or LED unit replacement | Per light, where the light allows it |
| Lens restoration | Per light, for foggy or yellowed lenses |
| Driver module, replaced and coded | The module, fitted and coded to the car |
| Software fix for a driver module | Reprogramming, where a bulletin or fault calls for it |
| Seal or condensation repair | Per light |
| Headlight washer replacement | Per side |
| Full assembly, replaced, coded and aimed | By car and headlight system |
Florida law requires the shop to prepare a written estimate before any diagnostic work or repair on all but the smallest jobs, unless you waive it in writing; see your rights under Florida law.
What owners say about headlights
Three Google reviews are about headlights. The two older ones are earlier reviews of KJ’s work, written before BMR Auto opened in 2022.
“I came to BMR Auto after an unpleasant experience with Lexus of North Miami Service, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the service here. The team at BMR Auto identified the actual cause of my headlight issue right away, communicated everything up front, and completed the repair promptly, all at a very reasonable cost. There were no hidden fees, and the service was both professional and welcoming. I highly recommend BMR Auto to anyone looking for honest, skilled technicians and reliable, transparent service.”

Questions from owners
My BMW says “headlight malfunction.” Do I need a new headlight?
Often not. On many F-series BMWs the cause is the driver module or its software, and the module can be replaced and coded on its own. BMR Auto diagnoses the fault before any part is ordered. See BMW adaptive and LED headlights.
Is there a BMW bulletin for adaptive headlight faults?
Yes. BMW service bulletin SI B63 10 14, from October 2014, covers a software error in the left driver module on some F01, F02, F07, F10, F32 and F15 cars built between 2012 and 2014 with adaptive headlights. The fix is reprogramming, and it is covered under the BMW new vehicle or certified pre-owned warranty. See the model and build-date table.
What does a BMW laser headlight cost?
In a March 2026 CarScoops report, a dealer’s price for a single laser headlight on a 2023 M4 Competition Convertible came to more than nine thousand dollars with tax. Before anything that expensive is replaced, BMR Auto checks whether the seal, the driver or the software is the real fault, and quotes the options for your car.
My headlight has condensation inside. Can it be sealed?
It can be, if moisture is the only problem. A March 2026 CarScoops report suggests sealing a cracked housing in that case. BMR Auto finds where the water gets in and tells you whether sealing will hold.
Does a new headlight need coding and aiming?
Yes. A replacement BMW driver module needs coding after fitting, according to the retailer that sells it, and the M4 laser unit in the CarScoops report had to be programmed to the car. Aiming matters too, because Florida law sets the distances the high and low beams must reach. See coding and aiming.
Can you tint my headlights or fit blue angel eyes?
Florida law bars any covering that keeps a headlamp from lighting at least 450 feet on high beam or 150 feet on low beam, and red, red and white, or blue lights visible from directly in front, except on the vehicles the law lists, such as police vehicles for blue. BMR Auto does not install them for road use. See what Florida law allows.
Can you restore yellowed lenses?
Yes. BMR Auto restores foggy or yellowed lenses. Call with the car for a quote.
Do you use new, used or aftermarket headlights?
Whichever suits your car and your budget. BMR Auto tells you which options exist, what each costs and its true condition, and you decide. See parts.
Do you repair McLaren headlights?
Yes, including washer replacement and driver module replacement and programming. See McLaren service and repair.
How much does a headlight repair cost?
It depends on the car and the system. A bulb or a lens restoration costs far less than a driver module, and a full assembly costs the most. Send the VIN and what the light is doing, and BMR Auto will quote your car. See getting a quote.
