Fair prices
A fair price for your Mini, and the same care as the exotics.
Many of the cars in our bays are exotic and expensive, and a Mini Cooper gets the same attention they do. A Mini carries BMW electronics, so a dead footwell module or a rattling N14 chain can bring a bill that seems large for a small car. KJ, who owns BMR Auto, prices that work fairly and deals with a Mini owner the way he would deal with a friend or with his own family. Respect and honor for every client and every car, whatever it cost new, is what BMR Auto has grown on. Exotic car owners trust the shop for it, and so do Mini drivers.
Where we can, we repair the footwell module you have, because a repaired original FRM3 goes back in without the coding a used module needs. Send us the VIN and tell us what the car is doing, and we quote it. Florida law also requires a repair shop to offer you a written estimate before work begins on all but the smallest jobs, unless you waive it in writing; see your rights under Florida law.
“Great service. I had my Footwell Module on my Mini Cooper S reprogrammed the other day by BMR Auto. They were very professional. Clean shop. Great and reliable price. Thank you!”

Generations and engines
Which Mini you have decides the engine and the electronics.
Mini cars sold since 2007 fall into three groups. The engine family tells you which faults to watch for, and the electronics tell you how a key or a module is programmed.
R-series
R56 Hardtop, R55 Clubman, R57 Convertible, R58 Coupe, R59 Roadster, R60 Countryman, R61 Paceman
The N14 and N18 "Prince" engines came from a joint development by BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroën. They powered mostly the Cooper S and John Cooper Works from 2006 to 2017, depending on the body. The N18 arrived around 2010 to 2011 with double VANOS and an improved timing chain. R-series engine work
F-series
F56 Hardtop, F55 Hardtop 4 Door, F57 Convertible, F54 Clubman, F60 Countryman including the plug-in hybrid
The F55 and F56 from 2015 use the B38 three-cylinder and the B46 and B48 four-cylinder engines, from the same family as current BMW engines. The keys and body electronics follow the matching BMW F-series cars. F-series engine work
Current generation
Cooper Hardtop (F66), Cooper Electric (J01), Countryman (U25)
The newest Minis, sold from the 2025 model year. Their electronics are the newest BMW Group systems, so call us first with one of these cars and the VIN.
We confirm your car by its VIN before we quote, so the parts we price are the parts your Mini takes.
Diagnostics, programming and keys
Mini electronics are BMW electronics.
This is where our record on Mini is strongest. Both Google reviews that name a Mini are about electrical work: one an electrical fault found quickly, the other a footwell module reprogrammed.
“Amazing company with the knowledge to back it! KJ and David very welcoming and assuring they will get to the bottom of the electrical gremlins I was having with my Mini Cooper. Not soon after I arrived the team started working on the Mini and found the problem in a very reasonable amount of time. Shop was clean and techs were professional. BMR lives up to the 5 star rating they have. Will definitely come back. Thanks all the staff at BMR.”

Diagnostics
BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce share the BMW Group dealer diagnostic platform. We scan every module with dealer-level diagnostic software and find the cause before parts are replaced.
Footwell module after a flat battery
The footwell module (FRM) runs the lights, turn signals, windows and mirrors. Its failure often follows a dead battery, when low voltage corrupts the module's memory. A repaired original FRM3 goes back in without coding; a used replacement needs recoding. That is why we repair your module instead of swapping it, in the shop or by mail.
Programming and coding
Mini uses BMW's systems, so the same coding and module work applies. We program and code Mini modules the same way we do on BMWs.
Electrical faults
We trace electrical faults on Minis the way we do on BMWs, starting with the fault memory and the battery. One Mini Cooper owner wrote that the team "found the problem in a very reasonable amount of time."
Keys
Mini key codes have their own route through Mini's technical information site, minitechinfo.bmwgroup.com. Second-generation R-series Minis (2007 to 2016) use the CAS module and F-series Minis the BMW F-series systems. We add keys and handle all keys lost on CAS and F-series Minis. On the newest Minis, call us first with the VIN.
Engine, maintenance and gearbox
The Mini engine faults owners ask about.
These are the faults Mini specialists and fault guides document most. We check the car and read the codes before we quote the repair.
N14 timing chain
A cold-start "death rattle" on the N14 can signal serious trouble, and a snapped chain is a known failure. Replacing the tensioner alone will not stop the rattle; the guide rails and other parts may need doing too. The N18's redesigned chain lowers the risk, though some early N18 engines had chain trouble. We listen to the engine cold and check the chain before we quote.
Carbon build-up
N14 engines build up carbon on the intake valves, which causes hesitation. Specialists suggest cleaning roughly every 30,000 to 40,000 miles, and a catch can slows the build-up without stopping it. F-series B38 and B48 engines also collect intake carbon.
Hard starting
An N14 that cranks three to five times before it starts, especially cold, often has a failing high-pressure fuel pump. We test the pump before we replace it.
Oil use, coolant loss and leaks
On the N14, oil consumption and a low oil level are linked to internal failure, and thermostat housings crack and turbo oil feed pipes leak. On F55 and F56 cars, a cracked plastic oil filter housing or oil cooler shows as an oil leak, a burning smell, coolant loss with no visible leak or a milky oil cap.
Maintenance
Check the oil level between services on N14 and N18 engines. On the N18, specialists advise changing the oil and plugs more often than the service indicator asks. Tell us the mileage and the last service, and we tell you what is due.
Gearbox and clutch
The N14 clutch is weaker than the N18's. A fault aggregator lists harsh downshifts, delayed engagement and shudder on F55 and F56 cars with the Aisin six-speed automatic, and marks that item low confidence.
The F55 and F56 faults on this page come from a fault aggregator that marks its own data as AI-assisted, so we treat them as symptoms to check on your car.
Every other job
Suspension, batteries, bodywork, inspections and parts.
Send us the VIN and the job, and we tell you what we can do and quote it.
Brakes and suspension
Brake service and suspension repair on every Mini generation. On F55 and F56 cars, a fault aggregator lists the passenger-side hydraulic engine mount collapsing along with the torque strut.
Wheels and tires
Tires, balancing and alignment. Many Minis run on run-flat tires, so tell us the size on the sidewall when you ask for a quote.
Air conditioning
We diagnose and repair Mini air conditioning, and find the leak or the failed part before the system is recharged.
Headlights
We repair Mini headlights. A light that fails together with the turn signals can point to the footwell module, so we check it first.
Hybrid, electric and 12V batteries
A low 12V battery can corrupt the footwell module's memory. We test the battery and charging when we repair one, and we register and code a new battery to the car. Call us first with a Countryman plug-in hybrid or a Cooper Electric.
Collision and body
Camera-equipped BMW and Mini cars need camera calibration after a windshield replacement, and cars with a head-up display need an original-equipment windshield. BMW and Mini cap a panel at three repaints in their paint film-thickness guidance.
Pre-purchase inspection
We run the same dealer-level scan as on a BMW. On an N14 car we listen for the cold-start rattle and watch for long cranking.
Parts
Because a used footwell module needs recoding and a repaired original does not, we repair the module you have where we can.
What goes to the dealer
When the Mini dealer is the right place.
When a job belongs at the dealer, we say so on the first call, so you do not pay us to find out.
- Recall repairs, which a Mini dealer does free. Send us your VIN and we check it for open recalls.
- Repairs covered by the factory warranty.
- Keys we cannot make for your car. We tell you on the call before you pay anything.
In general, servicing at an independent shop does not void your warranty. A maker may not require a branded part or service as a condition of the warranty unless that part or service is free, and the FTC says a company cannot deny coverage only because you used an independent shop or another company's parts. It can deny a claim for damage the outside part or work caused.
What owners say about BMR Auto
The two Google reviews that name a Mini are quoted above, in fair prices and in diagnostics, programming and keys. The two below come from owners of other cars, about the same kind of work.
“I had a really good experience with KJ today. He was able to reset my FRM very quickly and at a totally fair price. It’s clear these guys are super professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!”
Adam L. · FRM reset · Google
“KJ at BMR was able to completely revive a dead BMW lipo battery in less than 1 business day for a fraction of the price of what a new battery would cost. Very friendly guys and quick turnarounds make for a great garage. Would recommend to anyone with a European car.”

Questions from Mini owners
My footwell module died after the battery went flat. Can you fix it?
Yes. We repair and reprogram Mini footwell modules, and one Mini Cooper S owner reviewed us on Google for exactly that. A repaired original FRM3 goes back in without new coding. Bring the car to the shop, or send the module by mail, and we quote it.
Does my N14 rattle mean the timing chain is going?
A rattle at cold start on the N14 can mean the chain is wearing, and a snapped chain is a known failure on this engine. Have it checked soon. We listen to it cold and check the chain before we quote.
Do I need the whole chain kit or just a tensioner?
On the N14, replacing the tensioner alone will not stop the rattle, and the guide rails and other parts may need doing too. We check the chain first and quote the parts your engine needs.
Why is my Mini losing coolant with no visible leak?
On F55 and F56 Minis, a fault aggregator lists a cracked plastic oil filter housing or oil cooler as a cause of coolant loss with no leak on the ground, and a milky oil cap as another sign. On the N14, the thermostat housing also cracks.
Why does my Mini crank several times before it starts?
On the N14, cranking three to five times before starting, especially cold, often points to the high-pressure fuel pump. We test it before we replace it.
Can you make a Mini key?
Yes, on R-series and F-series Minis, including all keys lost. On the newest Minis, call us first with the VIN. See Mini keys.
Is a BMW specialist the right shop for a Mini?
Mini is a BMW Group brand. It shares the BMW Group dealer diagnostic platform with BMW and Rolls-Royce, and its keys and body electronics follow the matching BMW generation. The Prince engines in R-series Minis were developed with PSA Peugeot Citroën and have faults of their own, which is why this page covers them separately.
Will servicing my Mini at an independent shop void the warranty?
Usually not. Under federal law a maker may not require a branded part or service as a condition of the warranty unless that part or service is free, and the FTC says a company cannot deny coverage only because the car was serviced at an independent shop or fitted with another company's parts. It can deny a claim for damage the outside work caused. Keep the written invoice we give you for every job.
Do you work on the Countryman plug-in hybrid or the Cooper Electric?
Yes. Both have a high-voltage battery, and we diagnose and service hybrid and electric cars, including the high-voltage system, the 12-volt battery and the charging side. Work still covered by the battery warranty or a recall is free at a Mini dealer, and we tell you when that applies. Call us first with the VIN and tell us what the car is doing. See hybrid and EV batteries.
Is BMR Auto a Mini dealer?
No. BMR Auto is an independent repair shop and is not affiliated with or authorized by BMW AG, Mini or any vehicle manufacturer.
